Carey T. Harney, local manager of the Bartlett Frazier Grain Co was found dead in his room on the 3rd floor of the Brown & Jack apartments in West Prairie Street about 10:30 Sunday morning. He had been well and in usually fine spirits Saturday night, having spent the evening in the Decatur Club rooms. The cause of his death is not known but he had been suffering with kidney trouble recently. The body was found by George L. Terry who lives on the third floor of the apartments. Mr. Harney has been an early riser, generally leaving his room before 7 o’clock in the morning, Yesterday he had not left the room by 9 o’clock and when no noise was heard at 10:30 Mr. Terry entered the room to see what was the matter. He saw at once that something was wrong and suspected that Mr. Harney was dead but made no examination.  He called Dr. Will Chenoweth and a number of Mr. Harney’s friends. They came and finding he was dead had the body removed to the Monson & Wilcox Chapel. The body had evidently lain in bed for hours and from appearances Mr. Harney had been dead since about 4 o’clock He had lived in Decatur for the last 17 or 18 years, moving here from Terre Haute where he was married shortly before coming here. His wife died about six years ago. For the last 8 months he had lived in the Brown & Jack apartments. He was hardly ever seen by Mr. and Mrs. Terry.  Carey T. Harney was born in Indiana Feb 12, 1859 and was nearly 60 years of age.  His father, Judge Harney was well known in Indiana.  He formed a partnership with Barton S. Tyler who died several years ago and the two were in the grain business together for a long time under the firm name of Tyler, Harney & Co. After the death of Mr. Tyler, Mr. Harney continued the business as Carey T. Harney. For the last two or three years he had been local manager of the Bartlett Frazier Grain Co and made a great success of the business.  He leaves two sisters and one brother: Mrs. Sallie Foster and Mrs. Mary Roadarmour of Ladoga Ind and Goerge Harney of Indianapolis.  No funeral arrangements will be made until the arrival of the brother.
